Last week, I had my initial meeting with Professor Ross Haenfler, my Vivero project lead. We talked about a timeline for the project, goals, priorities, and next steps. We decided to focus initially on building a solid foundation for the website, so that it is accessible, user-friendly, expandable, and easy to navigate. Once the website is updated, my next task would be to create a template subculture for students from his Deviance and Social Control class to take inspiration from when contributing to the website. That should be done before the beginning of the next semester. After that, we could think about adding extra features to the site, such as maps or data visualizations.

I’m super excited about continuing to work on this. I met with Dr. Haenfler again, and it seems like we are on the same page about which direction to take the website. I’ve started to experiment with different navigation menus, themes, and homepages for the website. I like the idea of simplifying the navigation menu and directing users to the pages they most likely want to access. Deviance and Social Control students, for example, would probably want to see the template subculture I talked about, whereas researches from other universities might want to browse the sociological theory part of the site.
